Let me tell you a story.

Imagine you live in a far away place in the mountains. In this place, there are no shops, no parks, no cinemas or restaurants.... There is not TV and even worse, no internet!!

Can  you imagine? No mobile phones!!!!! What can you do?

Well, this place existed in the1930s, in the Appalagian region of Kentucky (US). Families in this region were very poor and there were no libraries. The schools were also very small and poor, they did not have books to give to the children.

In order to increase literacy among the population if this region, the US government started a project, called "The Pack Horse Library Project". The purpose of this project was to deliver books and other reading material to small villages in the mountain area of Kentucky.

The majority of public libraries in Kentucky were in large towns and cities.
